Achievements

Free Students’ Union has always worked to address the problems of students’ and serve as the bridge between authorities and students. FSU, MMC is a guardian to all students, be it from Certificate level, Bachelor level, Post graduate level or super specialisations.
The current body is the 13th Executive Body of FSU which has been effective from 2065 BS till date. It was elected on Chaitra 6,2065. Since then we have put our utmost effort for students’ welfare.

Some of our activities during our tenure are mentioned below:

1. Academic
• A workshop was conducted incoordination with the Dean’s Office and many recommendations were made for the maintenance of academic calender.
• Regular efforts to upgrade and maintain logistics for teaching-learning activities.
• Implementation of new curriculum in MBBS and review of curriculum of BPH and BMLT are in final stages and will be implemented as four-year bachelor programs from the coming academic year.
• Super-specialisation programs MCh and DM were started
• Efforts for recognition of postgraduate programs in MCI has been initiated with great pressure from FSU?
• We have been able to make provisions for conduction of graduate level entrance examinations for students who have passed undergraduate programs from the institute, immediately after their course is over.?
• Support for participation of students from Radiology, Pharmacy and Optometry in international conferences held in Nepal and India.
Electronic ID card for all students of campus.

2. Library
Free internet service in library (with Wifi).
New sets of course and reference books.
List of required books have been given to the campus, which will arrive soon.
Opening hour of library from 8 AM to 12 PM even during public holidays was put into effect.
Expansion of library and starting a journal section in library is in progress.

3. Accommodation/Hostel
Construction of PG hostel is at final stage.
FSU has proposed to construct a new block for Boys’ Hostel.
Rented hostel (D-block) for student’s was also initiated under our efforts.
Provision of hostel for certificate level students.
Construction of new hostel for foreign students is under discussion.
Toilets and bathrooms have been repaired in both Boys’ and girls’ hostel
Special attention to cleanliness in hostel premises.
Tiling of mess hall and kitchens.
Canteen in Boys’ Hostel is being improved.
Daily newspapers in Boys’ and Girls’ hostel.
Televisions of Boys’ and Girls’ hostel were repaired.

4. Sports/Entertainment
Renovation of Gym hall: maintenance and addition of new equipments.
Annual sports festivals were held in 2066 and 2067.
Conduction of various interfaculty, interbatch football, futsol, cricket tournaments in various occasions.
Participation in NMC Sports and Music Fest 2066/2067 and BPKIHS Intercollege Fest 2066.
Conduction of movie show in auditorium for charity purpose.
Participation in Intermedical college sport and cultural fest Pulse 2008, 2009 and 2010 in New Delhi, India.
Greeting exchange and tea party in New year, Democracy day, Republic Day, Dashain, Tihar, Chhat, Lhosarand Id.
Celebration of Holi among students.
Saraswati Puja was observed with great enthusiasm and effort.

5. Medical Benefit
Provision of 90% medical benefit for the students’ of IOM in hospital medical expenses effective from the year 2067.

6. Annual programs
Observation of annual graduation and felicitation programs 2066 and 2067.
Observation of annual welcome program 2066 and 2067.

7. Social activities
Community health camp and Eye camp at Dhapasi, kathmandu.
Health camp in Chhat at Ranipokhari in 2066, 2067.
Financial support for treatment of two economically weak persons in TUTH.
Blood donation program organized in TUTH premises to support TUTH blood bank.

8. Support to other students’ societies and organizations
Free students’ Union is provoding constant support and coordination to activies of other organizations including NMSS, NPHSS, NPSS, NMLSS, NRTSS, NOSS, NRDA, FOTS, TSAN, NSU, ANNFSU, ANNFSU-R, Reader’s club etc.

Information booklet for newcomers to IOM.
Publication of The Souvenir 2011.

10. Reformations
a. Andolan against reservation seats in MBBS for faculties and staffs of IOM, which was cancelled for the betterment of the institute.
b. Andolan against corruption and malpractices in PG entrance conducted by the Dean’s office. After the intense pressure from studentsand investigation of the matter, the entrance examination was conducted again under fair backgrounds. VArious improvements regarding the transparency of entrance examination have been put forth. There was active involvement of FSU, teacher’s association, Faculty Doctor’s association, NRDA and other student societies in the matter.

11. Interational students’ Committee
FSU has formed this committee to represent students from foreign countries in International relationdepartment of the Campus.

12. Representation and memberships
Representives from FSU took part in various meetings of Education Board, Library, Scholarship committee, Hostel Development Committee, Head of Departments, and provided valuable inputs regarding various issues.
Has been active as a member of Faculty Board, which puts FSU in high post of decision making and implementation. We have always raised voice and provided valuable inputa for the betterment of the institute.
FSu has been chosen as member of the Organizing committee for the grand celebration of College day on 1st Ashwin 2068.

13.Construction
Construction of a temple of Goddess Sarawoti in the premises of the Campus in on the way.
Construction of Garden between B and C blocks.
Renovation of FSU canteen.

14. Miscellaneous
Increase in stipend of resident doctors and interns.
Prticipation in various programs conducted by student societies and FSU council

Our efforts have always been with one objective, that is “welfare of the students”. We are open to constant touch, feedbacks and suggestions. We are all striving to do something better than what has already been done so lets join hands for the prosperous future of Maharajgunj Medical Campus, Institute of Medicine.
